Now We Need the 'Dropkick' Part

Category: General Nonsense || By

Someone P'd in my car yesterday.

What's worse, they also M'd, U'd, R'd, H'd, Y'd and S'd, all over the back seat.

Tedco Construction and Millcraft Industries have donated to the G.C. Murphy Company Foundation the MURPHY'S sign that once decorated the Forbes Avenue side of the store in Market Square.

(They're the same letters visible in this photo, just above a devastatingly handsome man. You can't see him, because he's behind me.)

Until someone figures out what to do with them --- or where to display them --- they're living in the basement of Tube City Omnimedia's World Headquarters.

If no one wants them, maybe we'll sell them to a family named Murphy. But they'd better have a pretty big mailbox.

And to think I started writing the book with a couple of file folders full of newspaper clippings. Now I have an entire house full of accumulated garbage collectible memorabilia.

Your Comments are Welcome!

But no one ‘‘d on your car? Where’s the apostrophe?

Out of curiosity, are you planning any local book signings? I haven’t bought your book yet, but I’d far rather have an autographed copy!

Very nice of you to ask!

As a matter of fact, yes. I’m scheduled to be at the Heinz History Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Dec. 6.

There will also be one in the near future at the Pitt Book Center in Oakland, but I don’t have a date yet.

We’re also looking to do some stuff in McKeesport, obviously —- probably at the McKeesport Heritage Center or Penn State Greater Don’t-Call-Us-McKeesport Campus.

Keep an eye on the G.C. Murphy webpage (www.gcmurphy.org), and I’ll post the stuff there.

The book is excellent. It pays tribute to the Murphy organization with both the reverence and honesty the the story needed. Very few retail histories are written from such a human angle, and you can feel the love that people had for the company on every page. Thank you, Jason, for being the instrument to bring Murphy’s to life one more time.
