Briefly Noted: Train Display Open for Holidays
Category: Announcements || By Submitted Report
Besides McKeesport's Festival of Trees, another holiday tradition is also open for the season --- McKeesport Model Railroad Club is inviting the public to see the changes to its new train display, through Dec. 23. The club is located at 2209 Walnut St. in the city's Christy Park neighborhood.
Hours are 7 to 11 p.m. Fridays and 12 to 7 p.m. Saturdays. A donation of $3 for adults and $2 for children and teen-agers is requested. (Children under 5 are admitted free.) Three train sets will be raffled to vistors.
A club spokesman says this will probably be the only year visitors will have an unbroken view of the entire display, which is undergoing its first massive reconstruction project since 1991. All of the former backdrops have been removed, and new ones will not reappear until sometime in 2012. Scenery is now 20 percent complete on the section of the display that was rebuilt last year.
The club is also recruiting new members to help create the new layout.
Free off-street parking is available at CP Industries and Steele City Auto Sales. For more information, call (412) 664-LOCO (5626) or visit the
club's website.
