Briefly Noted: Penn State Offers Gas Drilling Info

Category: Announcements || By Submitted Report

Residents concerned about Marcellus shale gas drilling --- or interested in opportunities to lease land --- are invited to an informational workshop put on by Penn State's agricultural extension office.

The seminar, titled "Understanding Shale Gas Exploration & Development," will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 2, at the Allegheny County Extension Office, 400 N. Lexington St., in Pittsburgh's Point Breeze neighborhood.

A spokesperson says the goal of the program is to provide attendees with a greater understanding of the impacts of shale gas exploration on leasing, water quality and the community, as well as needs that homeowners and community members should address if they hold property in shale gas areas.

Scheduled speakers include Penn State Extension educators Jon Laughner and Dana Rizzo, as well as Ross Pifer, director of Penn State's Agricultural Law Resource & Reference Center. The discussion will include the current and future outlook for shale development, related water issues and legal impacts on shale development. A question and answer period will follow the discussion.

This program is for educational purposes only and is not intended to be legal advice. Those with legal questions or issues should consult an attorney.

"Understanding Shale Gas Exploration & Development" is free and open to the public. Due to limited space, pre-registration is required by calling (412) 473-2540.

Penn State encourages persons with disabilities to participate in its programs and activities. If you anticipate needing special accommodations or have questions about the physical access provided, please contact Jon Laughner at (412) 473-2540 in advance of your visit.
